Summary

Brendan Murphy was raised in England. After reading medicine in London and psychiatry in Manchester, he moved to Australia to practice. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University and a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in both the UK and Australia. He has written widely on schizophrenia and on youth mental health.
Brendan Murphy is a sport historian. His book on the origins of football, From Sheffield with Love, was published by SportsBooks in 2007. The Game That Would Be King: The Uncharted History of Soccer 800 – 1800 AD was published by Meyer & Meyer Sport in 2025. He has authored four young adult fantasy novels, a picture book, a thriller, and a screenplay.
